Benzyl Salicylate
INCI NAME:
Benzyl Salicylate
ORIGIN:
Vegetable, synthetic
FUNCTION:
Perfume
This is an automatic translation
Benzyl Salicylate is an almost colorless liquid, with a delicate sweet floral scent, slightly balsamic. From a chemical point of view, it is the benzyl ester of salicylic acid.
It is a component naturally present in some essential oils, including cananga and ylang ylang oil, but is usually used as a synthetically produced fragrance.
It has a weak ability to absorb UVB radiation, in fact it was one of the first filters inserted at the level of solar emulsions in the 1920s. To date, however, it has been replaced for this use and is no longer used as a solar filter as it is not very effective.
As an aromatic substance in itself, on the other hand, it helps to make scents lasting, as well as giving them a slight balsamic aroma.
However, it presents a criticality: it is included in the list of allergens according to Reg. 1223/2009 / EC, for this reason it must be compulsorily declared on the label when used in concentrations greater than 0.001% in non-rinse cosmetics and greater than 0.01 % in rinse-off products.
