Green clay is a substance consisting of a mixture of compounds of mineral origin, originating from the erosion of granite rocks and the consequent redeposition of the resulting decay materials. It is precisely this particular mineral composition that gives green clay the many properties it enjoys. Properties that, moreover, have been known since ancient times, so much so that the ancient Egyptians and Roman peoples already used it in the treatment of various ailments, both externally and orally.

It is a very popular and widely used substance in the phytotherapeutic and cosmetic field.

In detail, from a phytotherapeutic point of view, Clay is used to treat disorders that afflict the gastro-intestinal system, such as swelling and abdominal tension.

It is also known for its adsorbing, purifying and antibacterial properties.

Its particular chemical composition of inorganic origin, has allowed the clay to be exploited in many therapeutic areas: first of all it is a remineralizing substance, thanks to the presence of silica, magnesium, iron, aluminum and calcium.

Secondly, clay could be useful as a natural detoxifier: in fact, it boasts chelating properties, such as to allow the "capture" of substances harmful to the body, even if applications in the clinical setting are still very scarce. When placed in contact with water, green clay forms a dense mass similar to mud, which solidifies after about ten minutes, in fact it is one of the main components of the mud used, for example, to counteract the imperfections of cellulite.

It is used in cosmetics especially for the production of face masks: thanks to this application, the skin appears smoother, smoother and softer. This mineral substance is known to have a purifying function on the skin, in fact it is particularly suitable for oily skin.
