Sodium Benzoate

Sodium benzoate, a white, odorless granular powder, is the salt of benzoic acid obtained through a synthesis process. Naturally present in many foods such as blueberries, apricots, mushrooms and cinnamon, it has bacteriostatic and fungistatic activities, and is therefore used in cosmetics as a preservative. It is active only at an acid pH between 3 and 5 and to obtain optimal preservation of the product it must be combined with one or more preservatives, usually with sorbic acid. In cosmetics it is used in various lotions, creams and hair products. Starting from the assumption that all preservatives are of synthetic origin, our research goes on preservatives that are of natural origin and that are effective and safe for the skin and the environment. Sodium Benzoate is one of the best substances available in terms of skin tolerability and low environmental impact. It is present in most of our products.
