Sodium phytate, a dark colored liquid with a characteristic odor, is the sodium salt of phytic acid obtained from wheat bran and rice. It is of natural origin and has a chelating activity against metal cations so as to prevent or neutralize the toxic effects caused by them and increase their excretion.

In aqueous solution it has a pH of about 4.5 and in cosmetics it is used in soaps, shampoos, conditioners and leave-on products for the face or body. Its effectiveness depends a lot on the other ingredients: if, for example, it contains vegetable raw materials that can provide oxidation catalysts, it would be good to increase the % of use. Normally in soaps it has a concentration of 0.2%. It is a highly biodegradable and highly tolerated product on the skin even by the most sensitive skins. It is contained in most of our products.
