Yarrow, also known simply as yarrow or ant grass, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, which grows wild near uncultivated areas and near ditches. It has a maximum height of 50 centimeters, produces very small flowers of a color between white and pink and has long jagged leaves from which the famous essential oil is obtained.

The Latin name Achillea Millefolium derives from the Greek name Achilleios, meaning “Achilles grass”. The tradition transmitted to us has it that Achilles healed some wounds of his comrades in arms, in the siege of Troy, with this plant: hence the name of the genus.

Yarrow essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the dried or fresh plant, with particular attention to respecting the balsamic period of the plant in order to extract all the components.

From a cosmetic point of view, this oil is known for its astringent and purifying properties. It can therefore be used to make compresses, cleansers, scrubs and face masks, with which to counteract spots and blackheads. Thanks to its sebum-regulating properties it is also an excellent help in case of oily hair and dandruff. It is also very emollient and soothing and can be applied in case of dry, chapped or red skin.
